NEWS FLASH!!!!! Annual Sports Awards

The Athletic Union & Academy of Sport, Physical Activity and Wellbeing are proud to produce the Sports Awards Dinner, celebrating sporting acheivement at LSBU.

The only event of its kind at LSBU, formal dinner, awards ceremony and party into the early hours.

This year the awards are going to be held Friday 16th May from 7pm til late, at BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts), 195 Picadilly, London, W1J 9LN.

Tickets are £40 and available from the Athletic Union office now!!!

Welcome to London South Bank University Athletic Union and congratulations on getting here. Hopefully the next three years will provide you with some of the best days of your life.

The Athletic Union forms an essential part of the Students’ Union and your student experience, providing you with the opportunity to enjoy social, sporting and cultural activities alongside your studies

The Athletic Union here at LSBU is responsible for the running of all student sports clubs. The clubs are run by students for the students, training once a week and playing matches most weeks. Several of our clubs have qualified coaches to help you with your performance.

Many of the clubs run teams that compete in national University leagues (BUSA – British University Sports Association and SESSA – Southern England Students Sports Association) throughout the year and are always on the look out for new players!!

We are committed to providing our students with the opportunity to play sports at all levels. If you have come to the university as an experienced sports man or woman you will be interested to know that we have one of the most developed sports scholarship schemes offered at any University across the country. For those of you that just fancy a new challenge then we still have a club to suit you. From Table Tennis to Taekwondo and Badminton to Basketball, we attempt to provide sport for all.

If we don’t currently run a club you are interested in there is always the opportunity to start one!

The AU is the largest club on campus, with a large number of members so the opportunity to enjoy sport at your University, get fit and socialise and make friends will definitely be available to all members.

So why not come and check out what we have for offer!!!

How to join the Athletic Union

In order to participate in any of the clubs or teams we provide you must join the Athletic Union. The cost is only £10 for one academic year; this membership fee covers the cost of your insurance whilst taking part in sport at the University. Once you have your Athletic Union membership you can join as many clubs or teams as you wish.

Membership Categories

LSBU Students (full or part-time) - £10
Reciprocal (students at institutions other than LSBU, subject to approval)-£10
Alumni (ex-LSBU students with valid association card) - £15
Associates (externals, subject to approval) - £20

Bring yourself to the AU Office next to the Sports Centre in London Road armed with two passport photos and the appropriate membership fee in either cash or cheque, (cheques can only be accepted if the card number is written on the reverse of the cheque) payable to London South Bank Students' Union. You will then receive your AU card, which entitles you to join any AU club.

Below is a table of the clubs currently run by LSBU Athletic Union, however after the Easter break the majority of clubs cease and it is only the Martial Arts clubs that run through the summer term.

The majority of clubs compete on a Wednesday afternoon in the BUSA league. You can see how each of our teams are doing by logging onto the BUSA website. www.busa.org.uk
